Finding North

In one summers time

Update!

So my summer has picked up tremenduously since the last time I blogged. Right now, I have made quite a bit of money working for my grandparents and babysitting.

Speaking of babysitting, I have some extremely exciting news! I have been asked to babysit for a family with a child with special needs. The child has a sensory processing disorder as well as many speech and language problems! I think this was god’s way of pointing me in the right direction. I have babysat him and his six month old sister for the past week. It has been difficult yet extremely rewarding. I often have to remind the child to “use his words” and when he isn’t cooperating, I use the phrase, “I am going to help your body” and move him where he should be. This is what the OT therapist suggested that the family use because the child’s difference makes it difficult for his body to follow his brain’s commands.

Overall, I am really excited for this job and I can’t wait to be working with he child more often! I think this will be an extremely good experience for me to see if I want to work with children with language and learning problems. Usually, if a child has language problems, there are many other deficits that the child faces. So if I went into speech-language-pathology I would most likely be working with children with more than one difficulty in their life. I am so greatful for this enriching experience.
